The thermal convector for hot water heating comes on sale with mounting holes for connection to the circuit, which run at the top and bottom on both sides. But in order to insert such an element into the general system, certain accompanying fittings are needed. The installation kit for a heating radiator provides for the presence of everything necessary for this purpose. There are also kits that allow you to fix the heater on the load-bearing surface of the wall.
Types of mounting parts
Connection options for thermal convectors can be different:
- diagonal connection;
- tie-in on one side;
- docking at the bottom along the edges.
Depending on this, fittings are also chosen. According to the diameter of the screw connection of the latter, it is necessary to purchase one or another version of the radiator connection kit. The main difference between them is that the diameter of the external thread can be made half an inch or three quarters.
There are also various fixing kits for fixing the hanging convector on the wall - brackets, pins and corners. The first two types of brackets are used on walls made of bricks, cinder blocks and similar structures, corners - when installing batteries on wooden surfaces.
For connecting radiator batteries ½
Radiator mounting kits are sold without brackets for hanging heat collectors. There are six parts in the package and they are designed to work with any type of batteries made of bimetal, aluminum alloys and steel, the dimensions of which correspond to 0.8-0.35 meters in height, and the type of mounting hole of the collector at the bottom and top is defined as G1 ”(internal). The adapters themselves are internally threaded for connection to half-inch valves.
Fittings are designed to work only with a liquid heat carrier water or antifreeze, which, in terms of composition, do not contain components that have a destructive effect on the O-rings. The normal functioning of the elements is guaranteed when the internal pressure of the system does not exceed 16 bar.
The internal thread of such products has a half-inch diameter. The installation of the fittings on the seats must be carried out with a force not exceeding 25 Nm, the Mayevsky crane and plugs during installation are tightened with a lower force - 20 Nm.
For connecting radiator batteries ¾
Similar to the above-described radiator kit, the three-quarter female thread kit can be installed on almost all types of liquid-fueled thermal convectors, they have the same technical requirements for installation. The package contains six mounting accessories and a key for the Mayevsky crane.
Adapters, air relief valve and plug are made of nickel-plated polypropylene plated brass. All elements of external threading of spare parts have silicone seals for quick installation, the shorts themselves are hermetically screwed into the batteries using fum tape or special sealants that can withstand temperatures up to 100 degrees Celsius.Each threaded insert is equipped with a hexagon for easy screwing in with a spanner or adjustable wrench.
When using linen thread as a sealant, it is important not to overdo it with its layer, otherwise it can lead to the destruction of the accessory body.
What is included in the installation kit
Typically, a standard radiator connection kit includes the following list of items:
- foot (adapter) left with an O-ring - 2 pcs;
- right footboard with O-ring - 2 pcs;
- plug for self-sealing adapter;
- Mayevsky's crane with a silicone gasket;
- special air release key.
A more versatile heatsink mounting kit might include brackets to secure the chassis to the wall. These fasteners are different according to the type of convector used in heating.
Futorka
A fitting that is threaded on the inside and outside of a short piece of pipe, shaped like an ordinary bolt. This part is involved in the connection of shut-off valves and various pipes, when it is necessary to make a transition from a larger diameter to a smaller one or vice versa, as well as to adapt the heater with standard pipe fittings. Plumbing adapters are made of bronze and its alloys.
In some cases, when the screw thread is destroyed in a steel hole, it is drilled out and a brass fitting is installed in this place. This extends the life of the water equipment.
Air vent Mayevsky
The valve of an original design, installed on the side at the top point of the liquid heat convector in order to remove air from it. The device has a brass base with a thread for mounting and a thin hole in the middle. Outside there is an adjustable needle valve with a slot and a hexagonal head for a turnkey, as well as an element made of nylon or polypropylene with a side channel for air exhaust. There is an O-ring on the thread of the air vent.
Mayevsky's taps are opened manually each time the system is filled with water or pumped up.
Plug
This part has a ½ or ¾ male thread and is more often made of brass. The front part of the plug from accessories for heating radiators can be covered with white enamel. It has the shape of a hexagon for easy screwing into the hole in the case. A silicone ring is installed on the thread near the protruding skirt to prevent water from leaking out of the heater through the gap between the walls of the spare part and the housing.
Brackets for fasteners
In the mounting set you can find brackets for cast iron units. These are steel pins with a herringbone, the working part of which has a slight bend to hold the heater. In addition to them, there are plastic dowels, where the shank of the pin is screwed in. Aluminum and bimetallic convectors can also be fixed with such fasteners.
In the case of a reinforced concrete wall that is difficult to drill to a great depth, it is more expedient to purchase the type of brackets in the form of hooks that are fixed to the wall at four points.

There are several reasons why it is profitable to purchase specialized packaging for installing heat batteries in the house:
- The installation kit contains everything you need - this saves time that will need to be spent on purchasing individual elements.
- The repair and maintenance of batteries is simplified - the metal of the heater is subject to corrosion, and if there is a need to unscrew a valve or air vent installed without adapters from a rusty thread, this can lead to certain difficulties.
- All elements are compactly folded in a package - this approach allows the installer to quickly navigate through a variety of fittings and other accessories and maintain order in the workplace.
- Any plumbing store has several options for installation kits, which makes it easy to find what you need. It is easier for an online store to transfer parts in packaging on the way to their destination, you can be sure that individual components will not be lost.
In addition to all these advantages, the number of kits should always correspond to the number of heaters, which minimizes the possibility of forgetting to purchase some components for the system equipment.
What to consider when choosing
When purchasing ordinary packaging for installation, you should decide on the diameter of the heater's docking hole. Some manufacturers of boiler equipment may give certain installation recommendations, among which the type of set for connecting taps will be indicated. These recommendations should be taken into account in order to avoid damage to thermal convectors. Fittings produced by well-known manufacturers are of great reliability.
If the choice falls on a universal set, which also contains fasteners, it should be borne in mind that special long steel pins should be taken under heavy cast-iron radiators to be able to deepen them into the thickness of the wall; for light models of heaters, there are enough brackets screwed in with screws.
It does not matter which unit is installed in the heating circuit - aluminum or bimetallic - they are not adapted for ordinary plumbing fixtures due to the fact that on the right side, when looking at the front panel, they have holes with a right thread, and on the left side, respectively , there is a left cut. Left-sided fittings solve the problem, allowing valves, valves and plugs to be connected to them.
When buying a set, you need to carefully check the direction of the holes on the fittings, in pairs it should be different.
